Lobster667's DKA Draft #2

http://www.raredraft.com/watch?d=33hwe

I really want some feedback on this deck - I felt like it was extremely promising, but I got out-aggroed by a R/G deck (splashing black) in the first match and was eliminated from the tournament. I want opinions on this: Did I make the right picks? Did I build the right deck? How good does my deck look? What would you expect of it?

Cheers,
Lobster667.

  1. Hey Marcus!
So, I figured I better come over here a little more often and comment on people’s drafts. School’s just been so busy  Anyway, on to the draft!
P1P4 – Definitely Tragic Slip over Flayer. Tragic Slip is just so good all the time. Flayer is either awesome, or just okay.
P1P6 – I take Chant of the Skifsang here. It is actually pretty decent removal.
P1P7 – Actually, I take Call to the Kindred here. It’s the kind of card that only works in certain decks, but I have seen it do incredibly things.
P2P1- I’d take the Farbog Boneflinger. He’s close enough to the dragon, and he’s on color. But he’s definitely not as exciting! Rawr!
P2P2 – Actually, you might consider the Tragic Slip here. But Tower Geist is a perfectly good pick.
    P2P3 – I take the Wolfhunter’s Quiver, but I don’t have the Dragon either.
P2P5 – I take the Highborn Ghoul, and just splash the White from here.
    P2P6 – I take the Headless Skaab.
P2P7 – I don’t think this card is very good. I’d rather have the Divination.
    P2P10 – I take the Skaab again.
P3P1 – This is fine, since you are in red at this point. Otherwise, I’d take the Soul Seizer.
    P3P3 – I’d take Griptide here.
The rest of your picks seems fine. I wouldn’t have jumped into red. The Dragon is a bomb, but not better than the bombs you already have, and you could have gotten a lot of really good black removal. But, you went for the Mythic, and that’s fine.
As for the build, take out the Increasing Vengeance for Bone to Ash. I think the Headless Skaabs would have helped a lot vs. a RB aggro deck. You have a lot of late game, but those Stormbound Geists can’t block, so aggro RB is really bad for you.

  2. Hey Matthew, good too see some activity around here :)

P1P6: I don't dislike the Chant, but the pack just made me think that Green might be open - it has three really solid green commons.

P1P7: Interesting! I could see picking it up to try it some time but I guess the thought hadn't crossed my mind here.

P2P1: I like the boneflinger, but he's definitely not as exciting as the dragon (or as Banshee from Innistrad).

P2P3: I like the Quiver a lot but isn't that a bit early? Not that there's a lot in the pack in Blue/Black.

P2P5: Yeah Ghoul is powerful but my colors didn't look near close enough to double black.

P2P6: I really dislike the headless guy and I really like the collar, but perhaps I'm too biased here...

P2P7: I don't either, in retrospect, but I wanted to try it out. Divination is the safe pick here.

P2P10: Hmm. I still don't like it but I guess I should give it a chance some time.

I think your advice is really sound; I guess I hadn't the perfect image of how the triple-DKA format looked like, since being able to hold your own against Red-based aggro like G/R and B/R really seems like a deciding factor. Thanks for the comments :)
